Many people argue that individuals should be judged based on their driving record rather than their age. My column examined whether this was an instance of age discrimination as some claimed. The requirement had been in place since 1978, but it was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing for online renewals without hassle. Currently, anyone 70 or older who wishes to renew their driver's license must visit a DMV office for both a knowledge test and an eye exam. I've written about this requirement before, as of January [year]. I'm still reviewing hundreds of responses to my column about driver's license renewals for individuals aged 70 and older. When it comes to the California Department of Motor Vehicles and its policies and practices, people are not hesitant to share their opinions, suggestions, and grievances.
